About this asset

Path Movement, Spline Paths and Obstacle Avoidance for Unity!

A complete path-following and movement toolkit for Unity. Move any GameObject along waypoint paths with spline curves, easing, rotation tracking, obstacle avoidance, and full event control. No coding required for basic setup.

Why Simple Waypoint Tween?

Most movement scripts are either too basic (point A to point B only) or too heavy (full navigation mesh systems with steep learning curves). Simple Waypoint Tween fills the gap: a drag-and-drop path system that scales from a single elevator to complex patrolling AI with obstacle dodging.

Path Types

Catmull-Rom spline interpolation for smooth curved paths between waypoints. Linear segment mode for straight point-to-point movement. Closed path support for looping routes. Paths are defined in local space relative to the GameObject, so moving the object in your scene moves the entire path with it.

Obstacle Avoidance

The built-in avoidance system uses raycasting in four directions to detect obstacles. When an object is detected ahead, movement pauses and the system redirects around the obstacle using configurable correction speed and search radius. The persistence timer prevents rapid stop-start bouncing. Randomized A/B route selection creates natural-looking avoidance behavior rather than predictable left-only dodging.

Movement Features

Constant-speed traversal using arc-length parametrization, so objects move at the same velocity regardless of segment length. 20+ easing curves: Linear, Quad, Cubic, Quart, Quint, Sine, Expo, Circ, Elastic, Back, Bounce with In, Out, and InOut variants. AnimationCurve support for fully custom motion profiles. Per-waypoint easing overrides for mixing curves within a single path.

Rotation and Scale

Three rotation modes: None (preserve original rotation), LookAtTarget (face the next position ahead on the path), FollowTangent (smooth rotation aligned with spline direction). Rotation speed control for gradual or instant turning. Scale tweening interpolates between per-waypoint scale values for shrink, grow, or squash effects.

Event System

Four UnityEvent hooks: OnPathStarted, OnWaypointReached(int), OnPathCompleted, OnLoop. Wire them to particle effects, audio, spawning, game state changes, or any other system in your scene without writing glue code.

Path Modes

Once for single-pass sequences. Loop for continuous repetition. PingPong for back-and-forth motion between the start and end points.

Editing and Visualization

Full scene view integration: cyan position handles for each waypoint, Ctrl+Click to add new waypoints at any surface, Delete key to remove. Path preview line shows the exact eased trajectory. Color-coded waypoint labels (Start, W0, W1...). Dedicated Path Editor window with reorderable list, reverse, and mirror tools.

ScriptableObject Path Assets

Save and share path data as project assets. Reference the same PathDefinition across multiple prefabs or scenes. Edit once, update all referencers. Keep level-specific paths organized without scene clutter.

Public API

Play, Pause, Resume, Stop, JumpTo(normalizedTime), JumpToWaypoint(index). Read-only IsPlaying and Progress properties for UI bindings and custom logic. All methods work at runtime and in the editor

.

Use Cases

  • Enemy patrol routes and guard paths
  • Elevators, lifts, and moving platforms
  • Traps with timed movement patterns
  • Camera fly-throughs and cutscene sequences
  • Conveyor belts and factory automation
  • Maze navigation with obstacle avoidance
  • Guided tour cameras for architectural visualization
