USDAbout this asset
XPorter exports Unity scenes, hierarchies, static meshes, skinned meshes, and animation data to the classic DirectX .X file format — ideal for retro engines, DirectX 9 applications, viewers, research tools, and custom rendering pipelines.
🧱 Key Features
🔹 Scene or Single-Hierarchy Export
Export the entire active scene or select a specific hierarchy root and export only that object and its descendants. Hierarchy structure, transforms, and mesh data are preserved.
🔹 Text, Binary & Compressed X Files
Export using four native .X representations: Text, Binary, Compressed Text, and Compressed Binary.
🔹 Static & Skinned Mesh Export
Export regular meshes and skinned meshes, including skin weights, bone references, bind-pose data, and modern Unity meshes using more than four bone influences per vertex.
🔹 Baked Animation Export
Animation is exported from Unity's evaluated transform poses rather than relying solely on raw animation curves. This greatly improves compatibility with Humanoid/Mecanim rigs, Mixamo-style characters, and other retargeted animation setups.
🔹 Inline or Top-Level Mesh Export
Choose between inline mesh data for hierarchy-oriented workflows or reusable top-level mesh blocks where appropriate.
🔹 Layer Mask Filtering
Exclude unwanted layers from scene exports, making it easy to skip UI objects, helpers, volumes, or other non-exportable content.
🔹 Hierarchy & Skinning Validation
XPorter validates selected-hierarchy exports and prevents invalid skinned exports when required bones exist outside the selected hierarchy.
🔹 Full Source Code Included
No black-box DLLs. The complete C# source is included so you can inspect, customize, extend, or integrate XPorter into your own workflow.
⚙️ How to Use
Create an empty GameObject, attach the XExporter component, choose the export format and settings, optionally assign a Hierarchy Root, then click Export and select the output location.
❗ Notes
The DirectX .X format is a legacy file format intended primarily for classic DirectX workflows, retro engines, custom tools, and applications that still make use of the format.
Animation export is baked from Unity's evaluated poses for improved compatibility, but complex or unusual animation setups should still be verified in the destination application.
⚖️ Asset Licensing Notice
XPorter only converts/export data and does not grant additional rights to third-party assets.
If you export content obtained from the Unity Asset Store or another source, make sure the original asset license permits its intended use, redistribution, or use outside Unity before distributing the exported files.
🧠 Ideal For
DirectX 9 projects, retro-style engines, custom game engines, graphics-programming experiments, legacy viewers and tools, research projects, and developers who simply still enjoy working with the classic .X ecosystem. 😌
