About this asset

I build games for a living, mostly for clients, and many of them are small platformers that have to run in a browser or on a phone scanned from a QR code. This is the framework I use for them, and to prove it works I made a whole game with it: Lumen Woods, which is in the package.

Lumen Woods is not a demo level. It has a title screen with options and credits, a map where levels unlock one after the other, six handmade levels and a save file that remembers what you finished and how many seeds you picked up. The levels use everything the framework offers: lifts, crumbling bridges, water you swim in, switches that open gates, keys, cannons, checkpoints and a heart to find. All of its pixel art and music were made for this game. You can play it in your browser at ugtk.fantasyrolldice.it/play/lumen-woods, and every scene opens in the editor so you can see how it is built.

The framework itself is a set of components you drop on objects and wire with UnityEvents. A player manager keeps score, coins, lives, hearts and a status (like "Fire") in a ScriptableObject and tells the HUD when they change. Collectibles, power-ups, keys, switches, sliding doors, crumbling and moving platforms, kill zones and checkpoints are prefabs. Enemies can see you with a vision cone and follow or shoot. Movement and jump are the same UGTK components used in the rest of the toolkit, so a platformer player is configured, not written.

WHAT'S INSIDE

• Platform 2D Framework: player manager and data asset, collectibles and power-ups, switches, doors, keys and counters, crumbling and moving platforms, side-scrolling camera, vision cone, HUD, pause menu, game over screen, three framework demo scenes (a short A-to-B level, the full Arcadevania level, a long 52-screen level).

• Lumen Woods: main menu, level map, 6 levels, progress saved between sessions, on-screen touch controls for phones, a 16:9 frame that keeps the levels identical on any screen.

• The UGTK systems the framework and the game need, with their own demo scenes: Movement, Jump, Damage, Shooting, Follow, Collision, Checkpoint, Save, Scene, Audio, Pause, Timing, Pooling, Activation, Key Input Action, Text Updater, Text Typer and Text Animator, Database and Dictionary, Collider Auto Resize, Singleton and a few small helpers.

WHAT YOU NEED

• Unity 6 (6000.0) or newer, tested on 6000.0 and 6000.6. Built-in and URP.

• Input System and uGUI / TextMeshPro. The first time you open a Lumen Woods scene Unity offers to import the TMP Essential Resources: accept.

• After import, a dialog offers to add the 8 Lumen Woods scenes to Build Settings, so the menu, the map and the levels can load each other. The same command is in Tools > UGTK > Lumen Woods.

• WebGL and mobile are supported: the game you can play online is a WebGL build of these scenes.

THE FULL TOOLKIT

Everything in this package is also inside UGTK - Games Toolkit for Unity, with the same GUIDs, so if you move to the full toolkit later nothing gets duplicated in your project.

Technical details

WHAT'S INSIDE

Platform 2D Framework

• Player manager — score, coins, lives, hearts and a status (like "Fire") kept in a ScriptableObject; every change is a typed UnityEvent the HUD listens to.

• Collectibles and power-ups — coins, keys with counters, status, heart and life power-ups.

• Level pieces — switches, sliding doors and gates, crumbling platforms that come back, moving platforms and lifts, kill zones, water.

• Camera — side-scrolling follow, or a dead-zone follow inside viewport bounds.

• Enemies — live vision cone with a matching collider; follow and shooting come from the UGTK components below.

• UI — HUD, pause menu, game over screen.

• Three demo scenes: a short A-to-B level, the whole Arcadevania level, a 52-screen level.

Lumen Woods (the finished game)

• Title screen with options (music and sound volume, new game) and credits.

• Level map: levels unlock in order, finished levels show the seeds you collected.

• 6 handmade levels: lifts, crumbling bridges, water, switches and gates, keys, cannons, checkpoints.

• Progress saved between sessions with the UGTK Save System.

• On-screen touch controls on phones; a 16:9 frame keeps the levels identical on any screen.

• Original pixel art and music made for the game.
