About this asset

PaintForge — Advanced Runtime Painting System is a modular runtime painting solution for Unity 6.3 and newer. It lets players paint, draw, erase, mark and modify supported surfaces during gameplay.

PaintForge works with MeshRenderer, SkinnedMeshRenderer and 2D sprite workflows. Use it for graffiti, dirt, damage marks, character and object customization, drawing mechanics, cleaning games, coloring systems and interactive experiences.

Runtime painting tools

The package includes 90 brush masks with editable presets, runtime color and brush selection, brush previews, configurable paint distance and rate, pressure controls, and five painting modes: Alpha, Add, Multiply, Replace and Erase. Painting can be controlled through the included runtime panel, code or gameplay events.

Animated and deformable meshes

Skinned Mesh Renderer support allows painting on animated characters and other deforming objects. Editor setup and validation tools help configure supported renderers and identify common scene issues.

Multiplayer-ready architecture

PaintForge provides transport-neutral APIs for synchronizing painting data and includes a direct TCP integration sample. External networking SDKs are not included. Photon, Netcode for GameObjects, Mirror and FishNet integrations require the separately obtained SDK and a project-specific adapter.

Desktop, touch and VR/XR input

Mouse, touch and vendor-neutral VR/XR input adapters are included. The package supports the Legacy Input Manager and optional Unity Input System workflows.

Editor workflow and Undo/Redo

Scene View visualization, diagnostics and supported automatic fixes help configure paintable objects. Dedicated editors are included for brushes, the runtime panel, history and multiplayer settings. The configurable Undo/Redo history groups continuous brush strokes as individual operations.

Requirements and limitations

PaintForge was developed and validated with Unity 6.3 (6000.3). Universal RP 17.3.0 is declared as a Unity Registry dependency. HDRP samples require a compatible HDRP package and active pipeline. Importing PaintForge does not change the project's active render pipeline. Input System adapters require the Unity Input System package and matching Active Input Handling. The optional patrol integration requires Unity AI Navigation.

The TCP sample is intended for direct-connection integration testing. It does not include authentication, lobby, relay, NAT traversal or late-join canvas recovery. Desktop samples were validated on Windows with Built-in, URP and HDRP. Mobile devices, XR hardware, WebGL and internet deployment of the TCP sample were not independently validated in this release; verify your target configuration before release.

Example content, seven configured demo scenes and offline PDF documentation are included.
