About this asset

AstarIT Traffic turns a rigorously-defined traffic-flow model into a drop-in Unity system. Instead of ad-hoc waypoint followers, vehicles are driven by a Nagel–Schreckenberg cellular automaton extended with spatial anticipation, comfortable braking, slow-start, lane-changing and intersection right-of-way. The result is traffic that behaves like traffic — queues that form and dissolve, jams that propagate backward, gaps that open for merges — and is fully deterministic and reproducible from a seed.

The simulation core ships as a compiled, obfuscated .NET Standard 2.1 DLL with a small, stable public API. Your project talks to it through a thin, event-driven MonoBehaviour layer, so the model and the rendering are cleanly separated: you can restyle the visuals, swap car models, or drive your own gameplay off the simulation events without touching the model.

Motion is rendered with snapshot interpolation and a clamped cubic-Hermite curve, so discrete cell hops read as continuous driving on straights and lane changes. Left/right turns get an L-shaped sample path at junctions to reduce diagonal cut-through. Two built-in visual presets (Background / CloseUp) and pace presets (Urban / ClearIntersection) let you tune for distant ambient traffic or closer cameras without touching the model.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

• AstarIT.Traffic runtime + editor scripts (full source of the Unity integration layer)

• AstarIT.Traffic.Core.dll — protected simulation core (.NET Standard 2.1)

• Eight demo scenes: compact 4-way, 2-lane and 4-lane intersections, highway link, two T-junctions, ring road, 2-lane arterial

• Vehicle prefabs for Light, Cargo, Bus, Wagon

• Manual, Quick Start, Integrations/ROAD_TOOLS.md, Third-Party Notices

GREAT FOR

Driving/parking games, city builders, management sims, ambient city traffic, urban-planning visualizations, and deterministic testing / analytics sandboxes.

Technical details

• Built and tested on Unity 6000.4.7f1 (Built-in materials included; URP: assign your own materials)

• No third-party runtime dependencies; Api Compatibility Level .NET Standard 2.1

• Protected obfuscated core DLL + open Unity adapter source (asmdefs included)

• Deterministic seeded simulation; event API: spawn / move / road-switch / crash / despawn

• Multi-lane roads, signalized intersections, lane changing, accidents, physics-reactive wrecks (opt-in)

• Editor tools: Traffic Editor, Validate Network, Quick Network, Path Adapter, one-click demos, live stats

• Visual presets: Background / CloseUp; pace presets: Urban / ClearIntersection

• Not DOTS/ECS — city-block scale (tens–hundreds of vehicles), not 10k crowds

• Demo camera uses legacy Input Manager (set Active Input Handling to Both if needed)
