The Game Style Editor turns scene building into a playable workflow inside the Unity Editor. Instead of only using standard transform handles, you can enter a Game-Style mode and build from the perspective of a first-person character, third-person character or a city-builder camera. Create your game from the same perspective your players will experience it, all without entering Play Mode.
Create items and tools for working with prefabs, terrain, tilemaps, and more, then organize them into hotbars using the included Craft, Chest, and Forge windows. The workflow is designed to feel familiar to survival, sandbox, and builder games while still fitting naturally into Unity editor development.
Spend less time navigating Scene View controls and transform handles, and more time building your world from the perspective that actually matters.

⭐ Key Systems:
🎮 Editor Characters: Control a character in Edit Mode and fullscreen. Experience your scene from your player's perspective without ever needing to press Play!
🧰 Hotbar and Item System: Easily convert your prefabs into items and organize them using the included Crafting, Forge, and Chest windows, making it quick and easy to place your assets. Use 17+ included items, such as the Camera to take screenshots, the Wheel Barrel to pick up and drop groups of objects with physics, or the Doors item to teleport around your scene.
🧲 Prefab Placement: Fine-tune and speed up your level design with a comprehensive set of prefab placement modes. Use Smart Snap for ARK-like building and snapping, Normal-Aligned mode to place objects in respect to your environment, or Physics Drop to create a more organic look. Arrange prefabs along an organized line, grid, spline, radial pattern, and more. With 10 unique placement modes, you can choose the right mode for whatever situation you find yourself in.
🌲 Terrain Editing: Edit your terrains dynamically by raising and lowering terrain height, shaping terrain with different brushes, stamping large features with the Stamp Tool, painting terrain textures, and quickly placing grass and trees.
⚡ NavMesh / Agent Testing: Test your NavMesh directly in Edit Mode using virtual agents with RTS-style controls. Box-select and move agents in formations around your map, and see how they collide, navigate, and maneuver through your NavMesh.
🕹️ Controller Support / Custom Keybinds: Want to use a controller to build your scene? Go ahead! The system allows you to move around, use items, and place prefabs, all with your controller. If you don't like the built-in controls, customize them yourself using the intuitive Keybind Settings window.
🎵 Music Mixer: Have some game music you want to listen to while working in Unity? Use the built-in Music Mixer to create albums and play through your music while you create your worlds.
🛠️ Game-Style API & Modding: Have an idea for your own Item, Character, Ability, or something else altogether? Use the built-in MonoBehaviour-like script templates and custom API to quickly develop your own additions for the Game-Style system!
🎬More: Check out the "Technical Details" section below or watch the "Feature Set" video for a complete walkthrough of the included systems and features.
💡 Future Development: The Game Style Editor will continue to expand with new features, QOL improvements, bug fixes, and support for future Unity versions. Planned features currently include 2D editing tools, UI editing tools, and eventually multiplayer scene editing. Future features are development goals and are not included in the current version.
⭐Notes:
Game-Style mode is designed to work alongside Unity's existing scene editing tools, not replace them. Quickly switch between traditional Unity editing and Game-Style mode depending on the task at hand. Take advantage of Game-Style for tasks that benefit from faster, game-like scene building, then jump straight back to Unity's standard tools whenever they are better suited for the job.
⚠️Unity Versions:
- Unity 6.0 to Unity 6.5
Commited to keep updating the project into Unity 7 and Beyond!
⚠️Dependencies
Notes: Tilemaps and AI Navigation can be removed after importing the package, they are needed for a couple of the example items, but are not inherent for the rest of the project and can be removed safely. The Unity Input System is a core dependency as I use the New Input System for controller support and some mouse and keyboard controls.
