About this asset

Warp Tunnel: Complete Hyperspace Jump Solution

A portal opens in front of the ship, the ship flies in, a tunnel carries it through a silent scene load, and it arrives in a new scene. One WarpDrive component runs the whole jump. Portals, tunnels and side view effects are separate prefabs, and any portal works with any tunnel: 5 portals x 6 tunnels give 30 combinations out of the box.

LQ [WebGPU Demo]

Now for URP, HDRP and the Built-in Render Pipeline.

Version 3.0 is a full rewrite and is not compatible with 2.x. Delete the Assets/Warp Tunnel folder before importing. The 2.x lens and tunnel are included as Classic prefabs with the same look.

What's Included

Portals

Classic Lens: the 2.x gravitational lens with ripple waves, event horizon and chromatic aberration.

Sapphire Spiral Bloom: blue and violet energy trails unfold from a dark core like a flower bud, surrounded by orbiting dust.

Azure Halo Gate: counter-rotating rings of energy, lightning discharges between them, a plasma core and a cross flare.

Ember Rift: a ragged fire ring with lightning, smoke, sparks and orbiting rock debris.

Pearl Orbital Rings: tilted elliptical rings that precess like a gyroscope, with light streaks flowing into the depth.

Every portal bends the scene behind it with its own screen distortion.

Tunnels

Classic Tunnel and Classic Tunnel Bright from 2.x, Sapphire Helix Stretch, Azure Ring Corridor, Ember Storm Funnel and Pearl Star Streaks. A tunnel can inherit the trail colors of the portal before it, so the trails from the window continue into the tunnel.

Side View Effects

Four departures and four arrivals for an external camera: stretch and snap with a flash and shockwave, a light lane with afterimages, a flight through a small portal, and a lens bubble that folds the ship into a point. They work with any ship mesh, including skinned meshes, and do not touch the ship's own shaders.

WarpDrive Controller

Drop one prefab into the scene, assign the ship, the camera, a portal and a tunnel. Front view for a cockpit or chase camera, Side view for an external camera. Cancel during the portal opening, audio for opening, loop, cancel and travel, events, and a single Warp() call from your code.

Silent Scene Loading

The destination scene loads additively while the tunnel holds. The tunnel waits until the scene is ready, the ship, camera and rig move to a WarpSpawnPoint, and the old scene unloads. Heavy frames happen while the tunnel covers the screen.

Effect Player

Every effect prefab plays on its own in Edit Mode and Play Mode. A Scene view overlay gives play, pause, stop, step, loop, rate and a time scrub. Use the effects in cutscenes or trailers without WarpDrive.

Parallax Space Skybox

Three depth layers that shift with camera rotation, procedural star twinkle, an optional sun with corona aligned to the directional light, and motion blur for high speed. In HDRP the sky is a Volume override.

Perfect For

  • Space combat and exploration games
  • Sci-fi cinematics and trailers
  • Fast travel systems
  • Loading screen transitions
  • VR space experiences

Don't forget to give a five-star rating if you like it. I'll be very happy if you leave a review.

Technical details

Requirements

  • Unity 6000.3 or newer
  • URP 17.3, HDRP 17.3 or Built-in Render Pipeline
  • URP: Opaque Texture (WarpDrive enables it on its camera)
  • HDRP: Refraction in Frame Settings
  • Built-in: HDR on the camera
  • Input System for the demo scripts only

Technical Highlights

  • Three render pipelines: URP, HDRP and Built-in folders with identical prefab and material names. Delete the folders you do not use.
  • No Shader Graph, no VFX Graph: all shaders are hand-written HLSL
  • GPU particles on compute shaders (High, Medium) with an analytic fallback for devices without compute (Low)
  • Trail system with 6 analytic shapes computed in the vertex shader, flipbook atlases and layer blend modes
  • Quality tiers High, Medium, Low detected at start, with manual override
  • Platforms: Windows, macOS, Android (Vulkan, GLES3), iOS, WebGL2, WebGPU
  • Tessellated lens on High, flat lens elsewhere
  • Shader variant collection warmed up at start
  • SRP Batcher compatible shaders
  • HDR and Bloom ready glow, with in-shader glow that works without Bloom
  • Measured GPU cost on RTX 3060 at 1440p: 0.2 to 1.15 ms per open portal, 0.02 to 1.5 ms per tunnel

Demo Scenes

Three scenes for each pipeline: two front view scenes that jump between each other and cycle all portal and tunnel pairs, and a side view scene that cycles all 16 departure and arrival pairs.
