About this asset

This package contains modern, high-definition versions of the buildings originally included with the Retro Mech Simulator game kit, for use with Unity's High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP). These graphics can be used for upgrading Retro Mech Simulator to HDRP, or for other projects not based on Retro Mech Simulator.

Included are 5 buildings, each with an intact version and a destroyed version. Each version of each building has a mesh with 4 LODs (except the intact Control Tower, which has 3), 4K textures, and one or more custom colliders. Each building comes with a default material with a fixed paintjob, and an alternate material with adjustable paint color. The destroyed version of each building includes a skeleton animation of the building sagging/crumbling/etc. There are no intermediate states for buildings which are damaged but not destroyed.

Also included are several particle effects for dust, crumbling concrete, and spraying water. Most effects were created with VFX Graph, but some water effects were created with Shuriken so that they can interact with the terrain.

Additionally, this package includes two terrain textures and a rock formation as bonus assets.

While the meshes and textures have been significantly overhauled for a modern visual style, they are still based on the original designs from Retro Mech Simulator, so the designs are relatively simple.

Technical details

Please note that materials and textures are for the High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP). URP and Built-In Render Pipeline are not officially supported, but you most likely can use the meshes and textures in URP after creating new URP materials.

Each version of each building includes:

  • UV-mapped mesh with 3 - 4 LODs.
  • Two 4096x4096 base maps (one for default paint job, one for adjustable paint job).
  • One 4096x4096 mask map.
  • One 4096x4096 normal map.
  • One primary material using the default HDRP Lit shader, and an alternate material using a custom Shader Graph shader with adjustable paint color.
  • Custom collider mesh(es). Most are concave by default.
