About this asset
AbleAnimator is the little animation tool we use on our own 2D projects. We wanted something quicker than setting up an Animator Controller every time a torch needs to flicker.
You add the component, add some animations, pick one to start with, and press play. Each animation works in one of two ways:
- Sprite Mode: drop in a list of sprites and set how long the whole thing takes. That's it.
- Key Frame Mode: a list of timed steps, run top to bottom. A step can swap the sprite, wait, move, rotate or scale the object, start or stop other animations, or fire Unity Events.
You can also play animations side by side on the same object. Say your character walks back and forth, and every few seconds a "Blink" animation runs on top without messing up the walk timing.
using MugHeadStudios.AbleAnimator;
animator.RunAnimation("Walk");
animator.RunConcurrentAnimation("Blink");
What's in it
- Sprite Mode and Key Frame Mode
- Key frames for sprite changes, waits, position, rotation, scale, concurrent animations and Unity Events
- Loop, play once, play a set number of times, or play then switch to another animation
- An onComplete callback when an animation finishes
- Collapse, duplicate, reorder and delete animations in the inspector
- A demo scene, a guide (PDF and Markdown), and fully commented source code
What's new in 1.1
- Updated for Unity 2022.3 LTS and newer, including Unity 6
- Now comes with assembly definitions
- Inspector changes to Mode, Play amount and the Starting animation are now saved properly and can be undone
- "Play X then switch" now works in Sprite Mode too
- "Play once" animations can be played again once they've finished
- A handful of other fixes, mostly around concurrent animations and calling things from code before the object has started
Unity versions
Unity 2022.3 LTS and newer, including Unity 6. Any render pipeline, since it only touches the Transform and SpriteRenderer. We checked the code against these versions but haven't tested every one in the editor yet. If something doesn't work in your version, tell us and we'll fix it.
